Second Unit shooting for Bad Bloods latest horror, Sacrilege. DP’d by Sarah Smither and directed by David Creed, we spent the night filming a massive ritual night scene at Tortworth Court (and my second shoot in Wotton-under-Edge of the year). The extras embraced their roles fully, dancing around the fire into the small hours and beyond. Rob Holder did a cracking job of keeping momentum and spirits up. Film is planned to be released at halloween. Fingers crossed they can meet their self imposed tight schedule.

Toy Story Primark Co-Lab
Down at Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre, Yeti took over to film the latest Primark commercial for their Toy Story range of clothing, released in time for the fourth film. It was great filming the models as they did their thing amongst the waltzers, dodgems and carrousels. The bright lights and steam powered attractions were only outshone by the Popeye on a rocket. Worth a visit.
Hobbes House (Feature)
The last month was spent B cam operating alongside the mighty Dudders on Juliane Block’s latest feature, Hobbes House. A zombie film with a political twist…
Starring Waleed Elgadi, Mhairi Calvey, Kevin Leslie and Makenna Guyler, it was a long month, but a lot of fun watching these guys run around with the hordes of the undead. To be released late 2019
Metro Exodus, IRL
Another Yogscast game launch influencer challenge extravaganza. This time directed by Noomi Spook, this trip took in the Lake District, the Severn Valley Railway and finally airsoft in Bristols old Crown Courts. Four influencers were pitted against each other to complete courses and solve clues to win the day. Closely linked to the gameplay of this modern epic, the art department did a cracking job of making everything look and feel like the dystopian game. Don’t take my word for it, see for yourself here.
Hungry Joe, A Shunk Short
A new year and a new Shunk Short film shoot. This time with James Oldham on DP duties, directed by Sam and Paul, its a weird shock horror called Hungry Joe. In condemned houses in Wotton-under-edge in South Glos, and a farm towards Cheddar, it certainly stretched the low budget lighting set up to its limits. Using Skypanels, HMI’s and Par cans to achieve the look James was wanting was challenging and fun. Ably assisted by Mike Sides and Serg Bozoks, we managed to light it all up, without anyone getting hurt. The night shoot on the farm looks particularly sexy, even if I do say so myself. Freezing but fun times with the Shunk boys to start the year off well.
Ed byrne meets Yogscast
As part of the new Elder Scrolls online Summerset release, we took a van load of kit and a couple of Yogscast presenters to the other side of the country to meet Ed Byrne. An avid gamer, Ed wanted the experts to show him around Summerset, and reveal what was new in this latest version. Safe to say, Ed was witty on and off camera, and it was an honour to be invited into his home. I am ashamed to say, I did try to be amusing around him. Not sure comedians are fans of that…
The “Ed-der” Scrolls Online series with Simon and Turps from Yogscast will be released early next year.
Paintball Massacre (Feature)
Boisterous Brothers first feature, Painball Massacre, was shot throughout September and October mainly in an abandoned quarry with a cracking cast. Directed by Darren Berry, DP’d by Ola Mesmer, I sparked for Harry Johns and had some great times fighting with the sun in the woods and lighting up bunkers.
Due for release late 2019
House of Arts and Crafts
Having spent just over a month working in a large country house just outside of Chepstow for Lion TV was a great experience. Six crafters were invited to live in a Victorian Commune, and recreate the ways of the Arts and Crafts movement. They were tasked with using techniques from the time to make furniture, art and tools.
Inspired by William Morris, Mary Watts et al the designs were beautiful yet functional. Watching the collaborations and learning curve of these artists was inspirational.
The show will be out on BBC 2 around Christmas, and I hope people enjoy watching is as much as we did making it.

Darren Till and UFC
We had a couple of days filming and chatting to Darren Till ahead of his world title fight in September. Watching him train is brutal. The speed, power and accuracy is scary to behold. Especially for someone as ill equipped for fighting as me. Listening to him talk, he comes across as an intelligent, softly spoken, thoughtful guy. I have a lot of time and respect for the man. He has been through a lot already in his life and career, and I sincerely hope he manages to go on and fulfil all his dreams in the Octagon.
